Porsche Approved N-Spec Tires

Barnaba Autosport is your source for Porsche Approved N-spec tires that are specifically designed to meet the stringent performance and durability standards set by Porsche.  In collaboration with Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, Bridgestone and several other top tire brands, Porsche has developed a tire that will surpass all of your performance expectations because they were designed with you and your Porsche in mind.  Your Porsche was made to perform and Barnaba Autosport will help you keep it that way!

"WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR A TIRE TO HAVE A PORSCHE N-SPEC APPROVAL?"

A Porsche N-spec approved tire is one that has passed a series of difficult and diverse tests designed by Porsche engineers to ensure maximum performance and safety under a wide range of driving conditions.  To qualify for this approval and "to be an Original Equipment tire provider on a Porsche vehicle or be approved by Porsche for the replacement market requires the joint production development efforts of the tire engineers working alongside the Porsche vehicle engineers."  In some instances specific tires will only be approved for specific Porsche applications or models.

Tires may be specified for a particular vehicle or range of vehicles and must successfully pass the tire company's laboratory tests to assure that they would be capable of adequately supporting the Porsche vehicle while allowing it to reach its top speed on the German Autobahn.  Additional laboratory, test track and race track tests are conducted to confirm that the prototype tires meet Porsche's noise, hydroplaning and handling requirements.  Prototype tires will also be evaluated to assess their high-speed durability, uniformity and serviceability.  Upon test completion, the tires will be released for production.

Production tires that have passed all of the tests and received the engineering department's release can be branded with an N-specification.  The N-specification brandings include:  N-0 (N-zero), N-1, N-2, N-3, N-4, N-5 or  N-6.  These markings on a tire's sidewall clearly identify them as approved by Porsche for their vehicles.  The N-0 marking is assigned to the first approved version of a tire design.  As that design is refined externally or internally, the later significant evolutions will result in a new generation of the tire to be branded with N-1, N-2, N-3, etc., in succession.  When a completely new tire design is approved, it receives the N-0 branding and the succession begins again.

It is recommended that only matching tires be used on Porsche vehicles.  Since many Porsche vehicles are fitted with differently sized tires on their front and rear axles, this means matching the tire make, tire type and        N-specification.  If a vehicle was originally delivered with N-specification tires that have been discontinued and are no longer available, it is recommended to change all four tires to a higher numeric N-specification design appropriate for that vehicle.  Mixed tire types are not permissible.

It is also important to know that while Porsche N-specification tires have been fine tuned to meet the specific performance needs of Porsche vehicles, the tire manufacturers may also build other tires featuring the same name, size and speed rating as the N-specification tires for non-Porsche applications.  These tires may not be branded with the Porsche N-specification because they do not share the same internal construction and/or tread compound ingredients as the N-specification tires.  Using tires that are not N-specific is not recommended and mixing them with other N-specification tires is not permissible.

According to recent Porsche owner's manuals, if you do run Porsche N-spec approved tires on your car, it is always recommended that your tires be replaced in pairs (one axle at a time).  In the event of tire damage such as cuts, punctures, cracks or sidewall bulges that cause a single tire to be replaced, for safety reasons, the remaining matching tire on that axle must not exceed 30 percent wear.  If the remaining tire has more than 30 percent wear from new, it should also be replaced.  Handling inconsistencies may result if this is not done.

You didn't sacrifice when you purchased your Porsche...  Why would you sacrifice now?

Porsche Panamera GTS & Panamera GTS Sport Turismo

New GTS Models:  Two Athletes Join the Porsche Panamera Family

Porsche has added two extra sporty models to its Panamera range:  the Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo.

With a powerful performance from the four-litre V8 biturbo engine (338 kW/460 hp, Panamera GTS:  Fuel consumption combined 10.3l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 235 g/km, Panamera GTS Sport Turismo:  Fuel consumption combined 10.6l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 242 g/km), extra dynamic chassis systems including three-chamber air suspension, and their own unique design elements and equipment, the Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo harness a one-of-a-kind performance package.  For example, the Sport Design package with black exterior elements and large Alcantara surfaces in the interior is included as standard.  What's more, Porsche has expanded its portfolio of comfort and assistance systems to include a heads-up display with various configuration options for the entire Panamera range.

Emotion and efficiency:  V8 engine with 460 hp and sports exhaust system

At the heart of both of the new Panamera GTS models is a four-litre V8 engine with 338 kW (460 hp) of output and maximum torque of 620 Nm, cultivating an emotional sound and driving experience when combined with the standard sports exhaust system.  The biturbo engine, which features a gasoline particulate filter, outperforms its predecessor by 15kW (20 hp) and 100 Nm, accelerating the Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds as it works in conjunction with the standard Sport Chrono package.  The two models achieve a top speed of 292 and 289 km/h respectively.  There are no interruptions in tractive force as power is transmitted to the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system by the eight-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox.  Their exceptional performance is achieved with moderate consumption of just 10.3 l/100 km (Sport Turismo:  10.6 l/100 km); the CO2 emissions are 235 g/km (Sport Turismo:  242 g/km).

Performance and comfort:  sports chassis with three-chamber air suspension

Designed to reflect the sporting prowess of the Panamera GTS models, the chassis systems are impressively dynamic.  The adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology is fitted as standard, which results in flexible control and optimum spring rate spread.  The sport chassis in the two GTS models has been lowered by 10 millimetres, while the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) function has been adapted for an even sportier calibration.  The result?  Outstanding lateral dynamics.  Large brakes (390 millimetres in diameter at the front, 365 millimetres at the rear) deliver outstanding deceleration.

That distinctive GTS look:  Sport Design package with black highlights

When compared to the predecessor, the new Panamera GTS models' basic equipment package has been significantly upgraded in a number of areas.  The Sport Design package with a new black front end, black trim at the bottom of the rear, and a variety of darker elements highlights the more athletic appearance.  The GTS models are equipped with 20-inch Panamera Design wheels as standard.  The interior features hallmark elements of black Alcantara and anodised aluminum.  The standard package also includes a heated multifunction sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles and Alcantara trim and the Connect Plus module for a wide range of digital services.  With the optional Interior GTS package, drivers can customise their vehicle with various design elements, such as a rev counter, designer seams, and GTS logos in the contrasting shades of Carmine Red or Crayon.

A first for the Panamera:  heads-up display with many configuration options

The GTS models offer all the same innovations as the second-generation Panamera range.  These include the digital Porsche Advanced Cockpit, assist systems such as Porsche InnoDrive including adaptive cruise control, and optional rear-axle steering.  The GTS also features one highlight that is new to the entire Panamera range - the heads-up display.  The display can be configured by the driver and projects all relevant information directly into their direct line of sight in full colour.

Even better for day-to-day driving:  the first ever Panamera GTS Sport Turismo

As is tradition at Porsche, GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport.  Porsche's first road-approved sports car, the 904 Carrera GTS, was launched all the way back in 1963, bringing racing technology to the streets.  This was followed by the 924 GTS and 928 GTS, which cultivated the concept throughout the 1980's and 90's.  In 2007, the GTS celebrated its revival with the Carrera GTS.  The first generation of the Panamera GTS followed in 2011, initially available as a sports saloon only.  Now, the new Panamera GTS is also available as a Sports Turismo.  With a large boot lid, low loading sill, increased luggage compartment volume and 4+1 seating configuration, the new GTS variant based on the 2017 model meets the highest of standards for everyday driving, while also delivering outstanding performance.

As a perfect example, we recently had an exquisite Amazon Green Metallic 1993 Porsche 968 Cabriolet with 29,000 miles in for repair and routine maintenance!  This is the unicorn of the 968 line!

Below you will find some of the highlights of this stunning Porsche classic!

Timing Belt Replacement

A timing belt is the ribbed belt that is placed in a specific configuration along one side of your engine to keep the crank and camshafts timed properly.  Essentially, it keeps the top half of the engine (cylinder head, valves) in sync with the bottom half (crankcase, pistons).

An interference type engine means that the valve's stroke and piston's stroke take up the same space in the cylinder, so the timing belt essentially keeps them from smashing into each other, since they do it at different times.  If the timing belt breaks, they run into each other, causing bent valves (most common), cylinder head or camshaft damage, and possibly piston and cylinder wall damage.  While it is possible that no damage could occur from a broken belt on an interference engine, such a case is unlikely.

Replacing the timing belt is a critical part of the maintenance on the 968.  Our well educated client made the wise decision to have Barnaba Autosport replace the timing belt, balance shaft belt, all idler and tensioner pulleys, water pump and thermostat to prevent this from possibly happening down the road.

Routine Maintenance

In conjunction with the timing belt replacement our client also opted to have all routine maintenance performed up-to-date as he is new to the vehicle and doesn't have the previous service history.

During our complimentary multi-point inspection we had found several items that required attention:

The spark plugs looked aged and were in poor condition.

The fuel filter appeared to be original from the factory which would have made it 25 years old!

The coolant was milky and tested outside of the factory specifications for antifreeze protection.

The Tiptronic Transmission fluid was very dark and appeared to not have been serviced within the recommended replacement interval set by the manufacturer.

The brake fluid tested at over 4% moisture content which is more than double the recommended content set by the manufacturer.

And we performed a fresh oil & filter change with a new OEM oil filter and drain plug.

By having these services performed the client is ensuring his safety, the reliability of his beautiful 968 and he is also protecting his investment.

After performing an oil & filter change we ensure that there isn't any residual oil and we clean any protective plates and underbody covers.

After performing the Tiptronic Transmission fluid replacement along with a new filter and pan gasket we clean it to make it look like we were never there!

Like I said...  We make it look like we were never there!

And because our client wanted to make sure that the vehicle was in as good of shape cosmetically as it was mechanically, he wanted two wheels repaired and refinished and a dent repaired using paintless dent removal.  Oh yeah...  We do that too!

And what better place to take it to than the Porsche specialists at Barnaba Autosport where our main focus is on you and your Porsche vehicle?

Porsche Pre-Purchase Inspection

We've all heard the old saying "A wolf in sheep's clothing" however have you hear "A pig in sheep's clothing?"  A very similar concept but one we can relate to when purchasing a pre-owned Porsche.  It may be beautiful on the outside, but not so on the inside.  We here at Barnaba Autosport are here to tell you just because the service history looks good, the Carfax report is clean and it dons a Porsche crest doesn't necessarily make it a sheep.

Purchasing a Porsche is a big investment, second to purchasing a home.  And depending on the model it can be the other way around.  To protect that investment it is imperative that a pre-purchase inspection be performed.  A pre-purchase inspection is a detailed report regarding the mechanical, cosmetic and safety condition of the Porsche you are interested in purchasing.

Here at Barnaba Autosport, our service team will perform a "PASS" or "FAIL" pre-purchase inspection.  That way there are no grey areas and you will receive a fair, unbiased report prior to making your decision to purchase so you don't end up with a pig.

You will not receive a generic inspection form; rather a 3 page detailed report touching on all key areas of a Porsche including an over-rev report and paint measurement readings.  Because why not?  After all...  WE ARE THE PORSCHE EXPERTS!

Autumn Car Care Maintenance Tips

Cool weather, leaves changing, pumpkin everything - Autumn is one of the greatest times of the year.  However, before you can fully enjoy the Fall months, you need to ensure your Porsche is in working order.  With these helpful tips, your Porsche should be fully prepped and ready to go to take on all of your Autumnal endeavors!

Autumn Car Care Maintenance Tips

Brakes and Tires:

Inclement weather and associated road conditions and other hazards require good stopping power.  That means good brakes and tires.  If the tires have the wear bars showing, you need to replace the tires.  Also check the tire pressure, as tire pressures drop when the outside temperature fluctuates.  Keep the pressure at levels recommended by the manufacturer to maintain proper fuel economy.  Barnaba Autosport will inspect the brakes and tires at no charge to ensure your safety and reliability this Fall season.

Vehicle Lighting:

Walk around the outside of the car and check the operation of all lights:  Headlights, tail lights, parking lights, brake lights and emergency flashers.  Don't want to worry about it?  We've got you covered!  Barnaba Autosport will check the operation of all lights at no charge.  We can replace any broken bulbs that may have stopped working.

Wiper Blades:

Your wipers are necessary for driver safety this Fall.  If the sky opens up and it starts torrential downpouring, your windshield wipers are the only thing allowing you to see.  Cracked or worn blades won't do an adequate job.  If you have squeaking wipers that leave streaks and blotches when they move, your vision will vastly decrease.  In addition, wet leaves on the road are just as bad as black ice, so being able to avoid them will ensure the safety of your vehicle and its occupants.  Check the blade's rubber to ensure it is flexible and operate the wipers to ensure they clear the windshield properly.  The team at Barnaba Autosport would be happy to check your wiper blades as a complimentary service!

Heater / Defroster:

Driving with a malfunctioning heater isn't fun or safe.  Also, driving with fogged-up windows is an accident just waiting to happen.  Check front and rear window defrosters to ensure proper operation.  Not certain if they are functioning properly?  The team at Barnaba Autosport would be happy to test the operation at no cost to you!

Battery:

A fully charged battery is necessary to start the vehicle in cold weather.  Have the battery and charging system inspected by Barnaba Autosport who can also replace it if necessary.

Under the Hood:

Looking under the hood will allow you to identify any obvious signs of wear or items that need repairing or replacing.  Look for leaks, cracks or loose clamps in the cooling system and squeeze the hoses and replace any that are spongy-feeling or brittle.  Inspect the underside of the drive belts for fraying and replace as required.  If you've noticed any engine noises, experienced sputtering or other engine problems, have Barnaba Autosport inspect the engine and make any necessary repair.

Oil Change / Filter Replacement:

If the oil is dirty or you're at your recommended oil change interval, change the oil.  Also, check the engine air filter and pollen filter to ensure that they are clean enough to allow for proper operation.  Barnaba Autosport is readily available to perform the necessary required maintenance is Fall!

Cooling System (Water-Cooled Only):

Check the antifreeze/coolant level in the reservoir when the engine is cold.  If the level is low, add a 50/50 mixture of water and coolant to allow proper antifreeze capability.  Remember that most antifreeze is Porsche specific.  If you do not have the required coolant, come visit the team at Barnaba Autosport to have the level properly checked and adjusted if necessary.

Fluid Levels:

Check all fluid levels.  This includes washer fluid, along with transmission, brake and power steering fluids.  Make sure they are all at or above minimum safe levels and refill as necessary.  The team at Barnaba Autosport will check and adjust your fluid levels at no cost if you don't want to fuss.
